Over the past 15 years, I have attended all Print shows (every 4 years) and most of the Graphic Expo shows (every year) in Chicago for new trends and technologies. This year had a very different look and feel than previous shows. The biggest difference was the lack of big iron. There was only one printing press on the floor this year, and some big-name manufactures did not even have a presence at the show. Most press manufactures elected to bring customers to their showrooms for demos rather than spend the exorbitant amount of money to bring presses to the show floor.
What was in abundance, however, was software to automate workflows as well as digital press manufactures with the latest and greatest in digital technology. As our industry matures, it is extremely important to create production workflow that decrease turn times and offers customers more than just ink on paper.
